Few weeks ago we realised that Norman John Gillies, one of the last inhabitants of St.KIlda when the island of Hirta was evaquated, died ate the age of 88.
Norman John was just 5 when he was evaquated with the other 35 membrers of the population. Few weeks before he saw his mother been token to the mainland from where he would not sa her again as she died after given birth to a baby who didn't survive neither.
Norma John established himself in England and always said that he was lucky to be able to enjoy the life in the mainland instead of the hardship of St.Kilda. Always he was able and ready to speak out about the group of islands and he visietd it some time during the years.
With him, we lose the last speaker of the real St.Kilda, leaving behind the last suvivor, his own cousin, who don't remember because aging problems about her past.
